Long-Term Goal (2015)
TVC is Alaska’s 1st choice for quality career and technical education, academic preparation
and lifelong learning.
Vivid description for long-term goal:
- TVC is an important part of Alaska’s economic engine; we add value to our community and our state by preparing Alaskans for the workforce, and educating and training Alaskans for Alaskan jobs.
- TVC is uniquely poised to help those students who want to pursue higher education in the university environment, but need help acquiring the requisite skills to succeed.
- Community-driven education means many things, but the one commonality is that our offerings will be based on what the community needs and what they ask for – that community is the city, the borough, the region, and the state.
- TVC exists to provide education that is relevant to our many diverse communities.
Mid Term Goal (2011)
TVC will consolidate its programs and facilities to enable students to receive instructional and support services in a unified and coordinated manner.
Short-Term Goals (2005-2010)
Internal Capacity: Build internal capacity to effectively meet TVC’s Core Purpose
- Make effective use of the Community Advisory Council.
- Clarify TVC’s relationship within a changing UAF structure.
- Develop a comprehensive enrollment management plan.
- Develop regular mechanisms for determining community needs/desires in education/training.
- Implement professional development plans for faculty, staff and adjuncts.
- Ensure that all programs have updated strategic plans and outcomes assessment plans.
- Ensure that all programs and initiatives are consistent with TVC’s core purpose, values and goals.
- Strive to increase TVC’s annual growth of graduates and credit hour production by 5%.
- Increase the diversity of TVC’s faculty, staff, and student population to reflect the broader community.
- Ensure adequate human resources, administrative support and materials are readily available. Review TVC’s strategic plan annually.
External Relationships: Develop/expand partnerships that add value to TVC and the broader community.
- Increase partnerships/collaborations that expand opportunities in high demand job categories.
- Strengthen relationships between TVC, other community campuses, and university colleagues.
- Serve as a regional and statewide leader in career and technical education.
- Develop a comprehensive marketing/branding plan that clarifies TVC’s image, mission, reputation, and place in the community and the state.
- Strengthen TVC’s relationship with the military.
- Improve services for students and external stakeholders.
- Strengthen relationships with local school districts.
Resources: Diversify and expand TVC’s resources to ensure financial stability.
- Develop a comprehensive capital improvement plan to inform Regents and legislative decision-making.
- Prepare a comprehensive TVC Development Plan to increase external funding.
- Increase external funding to 30% of the overall budget by capitalizing on opportunities aligned with TVC’s mission and goals.
Programs: Offer a dynamic mix of quality programs and services that meet community and industry needs.
- Complete annual program outcomes assessment process and implement appropriate changes.
- Conduct program reviews every five years and implement appropriate changes.
- Strengthen hiring and evaluation processes of adjunct faculty.
- Expand and strengthen TVC programs and offerings of relevance to Alaska Natives and other underrepresented populations.
