Semester Checklist

This check list has been developed for our new and "seasoned" instructors. We hope you will find it useful in keeping you on track as we progress through the semester.

Textbooks

Adopting a Text Book

After you have selected a text book that you want to use for your class you should contact your administrative assistant and be prepared to give the title, author, publisher and ISBN number of the book you want to use in your class.

Searching for a Text Book to use

Many publishers are willing to send you review copies of text books at no cost. Contact your department coordinator for a list a publishers and possible texts you may use. Do not feel limited to using the book that has been used by past instructors.

Syllabus, Assignments, and Schedule

Your class syllabus is one of the most important pieces of paper you will give your students. In essence, your syllabus is an agreement that states what you expect of your students and what they can expect from you. In addition, your syllabus must contain your grading policy.

You should also take the time to describe the assignments in your class, and develop a schedule so that students will know what to expect on a week to week basis. Ask your department coordinator for a sample syllabus to help you in developing your own.

After completing your syllabus, be sure to get a copy of it to your administrative assistant. You can either put it in her mailbox or email it to her.
