Construction activities to improve heating, cooling, and electrical systems at TVCC, 604 Barnette St. begin February 1, 2008 and continue through August 31, 2008. The building will remain open for business throughout construction except for a 2-week period from June 15 to July 1, 2008.
The project will take place between February and August of 2008; our plan is to
minimize its impact on TVCC classes this spring. In summer it will have
more impact on TVCC operations, including a full two-week closure planned
for the last two weeks of June. Note that all other TVC facilities
will be operating normally.
A fence will be erected around the north
parking area. This will provide a
construction zone for supplies and equipment. Please plan to park on the west side of the building, in the UAF parking
garage (requires UAF decal) or in other appropriate locations. The UAF parking
garage has plenty of space and headbolt heaters.
Timeline
FEBRUARY 2008:
Begin construction of staging area adjacent to TVCC, temporary ventilation and minor demolition.
TVC parking will continue west of the building and in the parking garage across Barnette Street. Contractor fenced staging area will be located along the 6th street (north) side of the building.
TVC will have access to all floors at all times. The Contractor will begin work primarily in penthouse and mechanical rooms on each of the four floors. The contractor will establish a presence using partition walls and signage near the elevator, stairs and restrooms.
MARCH/APRIL/MAY 2008:
Begin construction on fourth floor in and around occupied areas. Contractor required to limit and to coordinate activities to accommodate TVC business and class schedules.
Construction includes interior demolition and installation of primary ductwork and piping on fourth floor. Exterior demolition of roof penthouse. Coordinated demo and installation in limited interior locations. Heavy construction begins in May following spring semester classes.
JUNE 2008:
Heavy construction in full swing in coordinated areas throughout the building and parking areas. TVC Parking limited to parking garage across Barnette Street. Building shutdown June 15 through July 01, 2008 to allow installation and switch-over to new electrical entrance.
JULY 2008:
TVC fully operational on fourth floor and open for limited operations on floors 1, 2, & 3. Construction continues throughout the site.
AUGUST 2008:
TVC resumes beneficial occupancy of the building. Construction continues in selected areas.
SEPTEMBER 2008:
Construction complete and contractor completes punch-list items for final inspection.
