The UAF Tanana Valley Campus is excited to be offering courses to the Delta Junction/Fort Greely community. Classes are being held at the Delta Career Advancement Center, a new state of the art facility, conveniently located behind the high school off Nistler Road at 1696 North Clearwater Avenue. Additional course offerings are being held on base at the FT. Greely School. Civilians are welcome to attend the on base courses.
Some of the courses TVC has offered to the community include: Applied Business, American Sign Language I and II, Beginning AutoCad, Microcomputer Spreadsheets, Microcomputer Presentations and PowerPoint. General education requirement (GER) courses include: English-Introduction to Academic Writing, Math – Functions for Calculus, and Anthropology – Individual, Society, and Culture. Special offerings have included Certified Public Manager program workshops, a Womens Wellness course, Microcomputer Graphics, Adobe Photoshop CS, Alaska Host/Safe Serve Seminars, Outdoor Survival and Safety classes, and Public Relations.
Classes held on base and open to the public have included Alaska History, Art Appreciation, Geography, Intermediate Algebra, Introduction to Justice, Introduction to Personnel, and Fundamentals of Supervision.
The cornerstone of TVC's partnership in Delta is Partners for Progress, which includes TVC, the Delta Greely School District, the Delta Mine Training Center , and Alaska Works Partnership. Partners for Progress is an educational consortium created to deliver education and job training for skilled workforce development and career advancement. This includes partnerships with Teck-Pogo and with the construction industry. One of the Partners’ most exciting ventures has been the establishment of the 9,600 square foot Delta Career Advancement Center (DCAC). Located behind the high school, DCAC houses Delta’s first “smart” classroom for two-way interactive communication, a computer lab and a career library/conference room.
