The accounting technician certificate and A.A.S. in applied accounting prepares students for entry-level accounting positions in payables and/or receivables, bookkeeping and payroll accounting. The program includes a mix of accounting and related business courses which provide the skills and knowledge necessary for job acquisition, retention and advancement.
Program overview
The accounting technician certificate is a stand-alone one year program that also completes the first year of training toward the A.A.S. degree in applied accounting. The A.A.S. degree in applied accounting prepares students to begin successful careers in the accounting profession and establishes a gateway to the B.A. in accounting and eventually the CPA license. Courses are specifically designed to address the financial decision making concerns of the modern business person. Instruction includes hands-on training in microcomputer labs featuring the latest in business and accounting software.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates of the applied accounting program have gone on to own their own bookkeeping services, work in accounting positions at corporations, utility companies, government agencies, non-profits, and small businesses. Others have gone on to complete their B.A. in accounting and eventually obtain their CPA license.
