The following guidelines are designed to assist the student considering applying to the Aviation Maintenance Technology Program at Tanana Valley Campus to complete all the require steps in the proper order, to meet deadlines, and to prevent frustrating delays.
Furthermore, it will provide a road map through the sometimes confusing bureaucracies of the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the Federal Aviation Administration while you proceed through the Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) Program and obtain your university certificate and/or associate of applied science degree and ultimately, your FAA mechanics certificate (license).
The guidelines are broken down into two basic categories:
- The University Requirements must be completed to receive a Letter of Completion and either a Graduation Certificate and/or Degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology.
- The Federal Aviation Administration Requirements must be competed before you can take your exams for the FAA Mechanics Certificate for Airframe, Power plant, or Airframe and Power plan.
This category is broken down into two sub-categories:- Normal Procedures, This is the standard method of obtaining your certificate from the FAA
- Early Oral and Practical Exams in accordance with FAR 65.80, This option is available to students meeting the FAA requirements listed in FAR Part 65.80. It is recommended that a student considering this option consult one of the AMT faculty to discuss the relative merits of this option.
Instructor Guide
The following guidelines are designed to assist the instructor, both full time and adjunct in completing a grade submission packets to the Office of the Registrar. Additionally, it will provide a checklist for the UAF Registrar in reviewing grade submission packets
- Completed Packet: Required Documents in BOLD to satisfy both FAA and UAF requirements, recommended documents in italics.
