Cosmetology Student Program Overview

This TVC cosmetology pilot program prepares students to take the State of Alaska Board of Barbers and Hairdressing Exam and qualify for employment in salons and spas. The one-year course of study is approved by the Alaska Board of Barbers and Hairdressers and was developed with licensed industry professionals in the greater Fairbanks area.

The curriculum is intensive, requiring 40 hours per week to complete 1650 hours of practical/theoretical training in preparation for the State Exam. The next session of the program will start the last week in March, 2009 and end May 2010.  Students can take their state boards as soon as they have completed the required hours and practical requirements. Financial assistance is available, interested students are encouraged to meet with an advisor.

Please note that special physical and health related requirements are necessary for success in this field.

Career Opportunities

Upon completion of the program and licensing by the State of Alaska, students will be able to practice hairstyling, manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing and limited skin care in licensed salons and spas.
