About the Program
The Allied Health program at the UAF Tanana Valley Campus provides education and training for students planning to enter health care professions or health care employees that require additional training. The department currently offers Nurse Assistant and Phlebotomy training; a Paramedic Academy; four certificate programs in Dental Assistant, Medical/Dental Reception, Medical Assistant, and Healthcare Reimbursement; and two associate of applied science (A.A.S.) degrees in Medical Assistant and Dental Assistant. The campus also offers programs in Nursing and Radiologic Technology through the University of Alaska Anchorage.
In Alaska and across the nation, the job market is especially favorable for health care related fields. Employers value applicants who have received quality training and education and can conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner that is expected in that industry. The Allied Health programs at the Tanana Valley Campus will provide students with the skills they need for successful careers in today’s health care industry.
Admission to these programs requires verification indicating that a student's health is sufficient to meet program requirements including negative tuberculin skin test or chest X-ray results. Also, proof of immunity to/or immunization for Rubeola, Rubella, Mumps, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Hepatitis B, and Chicken Pox.
Allied Health advisors are available to help students choose their curriculum and meet their professional goals. All Allied Health programs feature a combination of both classroom learning and hands-on externships to ensure students receive a well-rounded education that will best prepare them for careers in the health care industry. Those who are already in the job market may want to consider taking additional coursework in Medical Terminology, Professionalism in the Workplace, and Medical Office Coding to assist in career advancement.
