Information Technology Specialist (ITS) Program
IT Certification Courses Available Through the ITS Program
A number of courses that can help students prepare for industry recognized IT certifications are offered through the ITS program. These courses can be taken by degree students to meet degree requirements and to prepare for industry certifications. Students not interested in pursuing the degree program may enroll in these courses for personal or professional development as well as preparation for industry certifications.
CompTIA A+
CompTIA A+ certification is an entry level certification and indicates that an individual possesses the knowledge and skills of entry-level computer service technician. A+ certification can be used, in combination with Network+ certification, to meet Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) requirements.
The following courses are offered through the ITS program and will help students prepare for CompTIA A+ certification:
- CIOS F110 Microcomputer Operating Systems
- CIOS F210 Hardware and Software Configuration and Troubleshooting
CompTIA Network+
CompTIA Network+ certification is an entry level, vendor neutral certification and indicates that an individual possesses a foundation of knowledge and networking skills. Network+ certification can be used, in combination with A+ certification, to meet Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) requirements.
The following courses are offered through the ITS program and will enable students to prepare for CompTIA Network+ certification:
- CIOS F244 Introduction to Network Support and Administration
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
CCNA certification indicates that an individual possesses the skills and knowledge to install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks (100 nodes or fewer), including, but not limited to, use of these protocols: IP, IGRP, Serial, Frame Relay, IP RIP, VLANs, RIP, Ethernet, Access Lists.
The following courses are offered through the ITS program and will enable students to prepare for CCNA certification:
- CIOS F245 Introduction to Networking and LAN Infrastructure
- CIOS F249 Routers and Routing Basics
- CIOS F216 IT Crt II: Switching Basics and Intermediate Routing
- CIOS F217 IT Crt III: WAN Technologies
Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)
MCSA certification indicates that an individual possesses the skills to successfully implement, manage, and troubleshoot the ongoing needs of Microsoft Windows network environments.
The following courses will enable students to prepare for MCSA certification:
- CompTIA A+ and Network+ courses described above:
- CIOS F110 Microcomputer Operating Systems
- CIOS F210 Hardware and Software Configuration and Troubleshooting
- CIOS F244 Introduction to Network Support and Administration
- CIOS F212 Adv. OS: Implementing Client and Server Operating Systems
- CIOS F247 Adv. Ntwk: Implementing and Managing Network Services
