An in-depth, technical and comprehensive course covering varied database skills and concepts. Course may be repeated for credit. (Requirements: CIOS 240 or equivalent skills.) (1 - 3+0) As Demand Warrants
Skill Expectations
Students should be able to understand and use the different components of a previously designed database.
List of Class Competencies
- To be able to analyze the purpose of a database.
- To be able to modify a predefined database to reflect changing needs.
- To be able to plan and design a database to fulfill a defined purpose.
- To be able to design database records with fields that are appropriate to the task.
- To be able to describe and use the appropriate field properties in the database application.
- To be able to design a database that organizes information into multiple related data tables.
- To be able to create and define different queries for a database application so that a non-skilled person can use them.
- To be able to create forms for a database application so that a non-skilled user can enter information into the database.
- To be able to create and define different reports for a database application so that a non-skilled person can use them.
- To be able to apply the applications query language to create useful queries that consolidate information from multiple tables.
- To be able to use a database applications programming language to simplify and automate database procedures for non-skilled users.
- To be able to understand and protect the validity of the data in the database and to apply appropriate design and security tools to protect that data.
