What is credit for prior leaning?
If you have developed skills that are equivalent to one of our CIOS classes through work, life, or training,you can document that experience and receive college credit. For example, if you have developed a comprehensive professional-level web site, you could produce a portfolio documenting your web design skills, and then, by following the credit for prior learning process, receive college credit for your skills.


How do I earn credit for prior learning?
In order to receive credit for prior learning, your skills must be equivalent to the course content and these skills must be documented or demonstrated. For examples of the course competencies see the TVC ITS Web Site at www.tvc.uaf.edu/its/competencies/. The course competencies can be evaluated with the assistance of a CIOS faculty member.  


How can I document my prior learning?
A combination of methods can be used to document the acquiring of course competencies:


How much does credit for prior learning cost?
The Credit for Prior Learning Application Fee is $50

A $10 per credit fee for each credit that is awarded through credit for prior learning will be charged.


What are the limitations to credit for prior learning?
No more than 25% of a degree program can be awarded through credit for prior learning.


What are the practical steps to receiving credit for prior learning?
