Northern Military Programs at the UAF Tanana Valley Campus is the Interior Alaska’s point of contact for University of Alaska services for Fort Wainwright (FTWW), Eielson Air Force Base (EAFB), Fort Greely, and Clear Air Station. Located at the Education Centers at FTWW and EAFB, Northern Military Programs provides classes and services to meet the educational needs of military personnel and their families. Staff is available to explain programs and courses and assist in registration and admissions.
In addition, Northern Military programs also provides on-site degree programs. These programs include the associate of arts/general studies degree (UAA), the associate of applied science in business administration (UAS), the bachelor of business administration (UAS), and the masters in public administration degree (UAS). All Northern Military offices serve as placement testing centers for math and English, and serve as exam proctor centers for students taking UA classes via distance delivery.
Classes at the four installations are provided by the Tanana Valley Campus as well as the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) and via satellite delivery from the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS).
Convenience
TVC’s Northern Military Programs is committed to meeting student’s educational needs and helping them find a pathway to compete a degree. Courses are offered at times that are convenient for military students. On-site courses are offered evenings, weekends, and during lunch hours. Within a regular semester, accelerated terms as well as weekend courses are offered. Online, live satellite, audio conference and independent study courses are also available.
Advising Services
Advisors are available at FTWW and EAFB to assist students in developing a clearly defined degree program and help maximize the transferability/applicability of credits earned in prior college work and while in the military.
Registration
Students may register for classes online or on site at Fort Wainwright or Eielson Air Force Base (see contact info. above). Civilians are welcome to register for classes as well. Please note: military course sections are ‘closed’ sections. Priority registration for all active duty military students occurs prior to the registration period for military spouses and civilians. Contact the Ft. Wainwright or Eielson AFB offices listed above for specific registration dates and further information.
Financial Aid
TVC Northern Military Programs is committed to assisting students in understanding the financial assistance programs that may be available to them. Military Tuition Assistance, Veteran’s Education Benefits, Pell Grants, Guaranteed Student Loans, and other military subsidies are available. Military members must go to their education center for information and processing of military tuition assistance.
Tuition and Fees
Military members and their dependents pay resident tuition.
Servicemembers Opportunities
College(SOC)
With the SOC program, students and their family members can complete a college degree without losing college credits due to a change in duty stations. SOC degree programs currently available on base through Northern Military Programs include associate of arts/general studies (UAA), associate of applied science in business administration (UAS), and the bachelor of business administration degree (UAS). UAF is also a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges network. Off base programs available through TVC/UAF include associate of arts/general studies, associate of applied science culinary arts, associate applied science maintenance technology (concentration in airframe & powerplant), associate applied science applied accounting, bachelor of arts psychology degree.
