About the Program

With more pilots and aircraft per capita than any other state, the importance of aviation to the Alaskan economy and life-style is unparalleled. Aviation is both interesting and challenging and, if you are motivated and qualified, it can be very rewarding. It's a career to last a lifetime. This is one field of study that's opportunity driven. TVC offers an associate of applied science in aviation/professional piloting for students whose objective is flying. Ground schools and related courses are taken in residence, while your flight training is arranged through local flying schools. If you are a rated pilot or military aviator, you may be eligible for credit based upon previous training and experience.

Facilities and Instructors

The Professional Piloting program is located in the newly renovated, state-of-the-art TVC Hutchison Center, located in the Hutchison Institute of Technology on Geist Road, just minutes away from Fairbanks International Airport. The classrooms and office area are shared with the Aviation Maintenance Technology program, which allows for more comprehensive coverage of technical subject areas. Class size is limited, so you'll receive individual help and attention. Your instructors are all experienced aviation professionals. Not only do they have excellent technical skills and knowledge, they know how to communicate that knowledge to you.

Admissions Requirements

To gain entry in the program, students must fill out a UAF Undergraduate Application for Admissions, available at the Tanana Valley Campus Center or online from the UAF Office of Admissions. There is a $40 non-refundable application fee. Students will be required to take an English/Mathematics placement test such as the COMPASS examination. The test is offered at the Tanana Valley Campus Center at 604 Barnette Street and is free of charge. For more information contact TVC Student Assistance Center at 455-2851 or fytvc@uaf.edu. Students may take individual classes without applying for admissions, however, students are encouraged to pursue the associate degree program.

Once accepted into the program, students will work with an advisor to select classes. In addition, our Student Assistance Center offers counseling and assistance with financial aid, tutoring, college “survival” skills and more. At the Tanana Valley Campus, we are here to help guide students on the road to success!
