About the SBDC Great North Region hosted by UAF

Heather and TinaOur mission is to be a partner, to foster, promote, and assist the growth and development of small for-profit business in Alaska. We offer free, confidential small business counseling, low cost training workshops, a small business resource library, and free online advertising via our Buy Alaska program. Our services are designed to assist those considering a business startup as well as those already in business achieve for-profit success by improving their understanding in areas like business management, record keeping, financial statements, operations, marketing, accounting, and developing a written business plan.

The Alaska Small Business Development Center is part of a national network of over 1100 offices serving the entire United States and provides services for all of Alaska. Created by the US Congress in the early 1980's to promote capitalism and entrepreneurship, each center was set up by the federal Small Business Administration and reports to them on a quarterly basis. The Great North regional center serves Alaska residents from the Canadian Border to Fairbanks to the Yukon Delta and all points north for the Alaska Small Business Development Center.

Procurement Technical Assistance Center

The purpose of the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) is to generate employment and to improve the general economy of our locality by assisting business firms in obtaining and performing under Federal, State, and Local Government contracts.
The following services are provided at no charge by PTAC:

  1. Initial interview and consulation
  2. General government code targeting and bid matching assistance.
  3. General assistance with procurement forms and registration processes
  4.  Assistance with solicitation documents
  5. Assistance in location of regulations and guidance related to contract bidding and contract performance
  6. Workshops and seminars on government contracting
  7. Assistance with SBA & DOT certification programs
  8. Web-based procurement training
